Ahmedabad, Sep 30 (UNI) Dance, Music and worship of Goddess of power marked the colourful beginning of this year's Navratri celebration, world's longest dance festival, here this evening.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, L K Advani inaugurated 'Vibrant Gujarat Navaratri Festival 2008' at Gujarat University Grounds here by lighting the lamp.
The nine-day festival, branded as 'Navashakti Gurjari', has been jointly organised by the Gujarat government and the Gujarat Industries Navratri Festival Society (GINFS).
Speaking at the function to mark the launching of the festival, Chief Minister Narendra Modi said the government in association with the industry, was trying to promote tourism through Navratri. He said terrorism divides the world, whereas tourism unites it.
Mr Modi said, ''this is the time to worship ''Shakti'', the Goddess of power, in order to serve the common man. Gujarat went to the aid of flood-affected Bihar.'' Terrorism is increasing in our country. During such times, worship of ''Shakti'' is essential, he aded.
The Gujrat CM welcomed the representatives of the embassies and High Commissions of about 30 nations were here to witness the grand opening of the festival of dance and music.
