Vice-Admiral Vijay Shankar assumes charge of CINCAN

Port Blair, Sept 30 (UNI) Vice-Admiral Vijay Shankar today took over as the eighth Commander-in-Chief of the Andaman&Nicobar Command (CINCAN).

The Admiral was presented an impressive 50 men Inter Service Guard of Honour at INS Jarawa. Vice-Admiral Vijay Shankar is an alumnus of the 34th NDA Course.

He was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1970. A Specialist in Navigation and Direction, he holds an MSc in Defence Studies and is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff Collage, Wellington, Naval Higher Command Course, Karanja and the Naval War Collage at New Port, USA.

His operational appointments include specialist tenures onboard various fleet ships, he was also Fleet Operation Officer, Western Fleet. The Admiral Commanded the Indian Naval Ships Panaji, Himgiri, Ganga and the Aircraft Carrier INS Viraat.

Prior to assuming charge of Andaman and Nicobar Command he was the Commander-in-Chief of the Strategic Forces Command,Lieutenant, Mannu Virk the Public Relations Officer of Andaman and Nicobar Command told UNI.

Vice-Admiral Vijay Shankar is a recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal.
