Chennai, Sep 30 (UNI) Olympic bronze medallist Sushil Kumar today said Indian wrestlers were not behind their competitors in the international arena in terms of tactics or hard work but the nutritional diet is what the Indians lack.
Speaking at a press conference after signing up as the Brand Ambassador for 'Bodyfeulz' and launching its peformance enhancing nutrition products, Sushil said the dividing line was the lack of nutritional diet for Indian wrestlers.
He revealed that consumption of such peformance enhancing nutrition products helped him to increase his metabolism and weight loss, and increase energy level.
''Bodyfeulz'' Musclemax fuelled his performace at the Beijing Olympics, where he won three bouts in the space of 45 minutes, a difficult task with the normal vegetarian diet which the Indian wrestlers normally follow.
The wrestler, who brought home the bronze medal in 66 kg category, said he was determined to win a gold in the 2010 Commonwealth Games and the 2012 London Olympics, for which he was already into the training schedule drawn up by his Guru Yashvir Singh.
''I am a vegetarian consuming the typical milk, ghee and curd based diet for strength of our wrestlers. In addition to the correct training schedule drawn up for me, I will rely on ''Bodyfeulz'' performance nutrition again for the Commonwealth and London Olympics,'' he asserted.
Echoing the same, Yashvir said in terms of difference in training methods compared to the wrestlers, abroad, the Indians start participating in the sport in mud. But those in abroad, they straightaway begin on mats.
''Another handicap for Indian wrestlers was while their foreign counterparts can train round the year in indoor halls and mats, our young wrestlers have to go off training during rainy season. Hence, our training is not continuous,'' both Sushil and Yashvir observed.
However, things have started changing now, they pointed out saying that the number of indoor facilities were increasing in the states where the sport of wrestling is popular.
Sushil also received a lifetime supply of Bodyfuelz products as part of the company's support to him to do well in the 2010 Commonwealth and London Olympics and thereafter in his career.
Later, Sushil and his entourage of eight wrestlers participated in a wrestling demonstration, which was witnessed by the Consulate General of Japan, Consul in Chennai presented an elegantly crafted trophy flown in from his country to Sushil.
