Jammu, Sep 30: A local court rejected the bail petition of Capt Chaitanya Bhatawadekar, husband of deceased army officer Capt Megha Razdan, who allegedly abetted to commit suicide at her official residence on July 1 in 2007.

According to the challan, accused treated his wife Capt Megha Razdan with cruelty following which she committed suicide by hanging herself.

However, after hearing the advocates, 3rd Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Sanjay Gupta observed that ''the nature of the accusations is serious because by the act of the accused, deceased Megha Razdan was forced to leave this world by hanging herself with fan''.

''She was a Captain having bright future in her life. It is also a fact that accused is a resident of outside J&K, so there is every apprehension of fleeing from trial and as he is Army personnel, he can threaten the prosecution witnesses'', the Court further observed and added that the act of the accused has shaken the consciousness of public at large.

The Court yesterday dismissed Capt Chaitanya's bail application on this ground.
