New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) With the best tie-break score of 23.2 in final round, Grandmaster P Harikrishna defeated American Gregory Kaidanov to win the Spice Cup Chess tournament at Texas University in Lubbock, US.
The Indian, who is the third highest rated player in India after World Champion Viswanathan Anand, shared the top spot with Grand Masters Varuzhan Akobian, Alexander Onischuk and Leonid Kritz after he was placed third in the penultimate round.
The 22-year-old finished with 5.5 points and was out of the possible nine in the prestigious category-16 tournament yesterday.
But in the final round, the world junior champion Harikrishna had the best tie-break score of 23.2 to become the winner of the 10-player round-robin tournament.
