Governor greets people and prays for peace on Navratras
Srinagar, Sep 30 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, today greeted the people on the onset of Navratras and prayed for peace and tranquility in the State.
In a message, the Governor said that the Navratras are being observed with religious gaiety and fervour all over the country in different ways.
However, he said, it has an added significance in Jammu and Kashmir where over 70 lakh devotees pay obeisance at the revered Shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi annually and propitiate Goddess Durga as Shakti to seek divine blessings.
He said that the pilgrim rush increases manifold during the Navratras.
Mr Vohra said that the Navratras also mark the beginning of a grand festival at Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, which, inter allia, portrays the glorious cultural ethos of the State.
