Gulbarga, Sep 30 (UNI) Describing the BJP Government's decision of carving cut of new district of Yadgir out of Gulbarga as hasty, former chief minister N Dharm Singh termed the cabinet meeting held here on September 26 as a political gimmick.

Addressing a press conference here today, he said that the cabinet had decided to bifurcates Gulbarga district without taking the people and the leaders of the district into confidence.

He however said he would not oppose the creation of the new district.

When the committee headed by former bureaucrat M S Prakash was supposed to give its report in December after surveying the district and finalising the taluks to be added in the new district where was the need to take such a hasty decision, he asked.

Mr Singh pointed out and added that the government had not bothered to take into account the demand of the people Yadgir and Shahapur taluks on deciding on the headquarters of the new districts.

Referring the cabinet's decision to set up thermal power projects near Jewargi and Bijapur, the former chief minister explained that the protects had already been approved by the previous governments.

He alleged that the committee constituted to monitor the implementation of Nanjundappa committee recommandations on regional disparity was not needed and was done only to accommodate disgruntled BJP MLAs.

He demanded chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to announce how much amount had been released exclusively for the development of Hyderabad-Karnataka region over and above the regular allocations.
