City court directs Delhi govt to frame rules for rape victims
New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) A city court today directed Delhi government to frame guidelines for the welfare of raped victims.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge, during a trial of rape case, sentenced Ram Singh (name changed) to life imprisonment. Singh was found guilty of committing rape of his minor daughter for a period of one month in 2005. The culprit, who was separated from his wife, was living in Patel Nagar area of central Delhi.
The court while awarding life sentence to the accused, opined that the victims of rape have lived with the trauma which could not be compensated.
In the present case, the father had committed rape upon his minor daughter and betrayed her trust. The father was not a man of means and would not be able to provide compensation to the victim.
Therefore, the court ordered the Chief Secretary of Delhi government to place before the court the means by which they could provide relief to the victim.
