Kolkata, Sep 30 (UNI) A city court today remanded three police officials to judicial custody for 14 days in the Rizwanur Rahman death case after they surrendered before the bench with bail plea.

The three police officials of Kolkata Police - Ajay Kumar, Sukanti Chakraborty and Krishendu Das - were charged by the CBI, along with four others, of abetting computer graphics teacher Rizwanur Rahman to commit suicide.

Rizwanur was found dead beside the railway tracks in the eastern suburbs of the city in September 2007. The CBI investigated into the unnatural death of Rizwanur on an order of Calcutta High Court and issued chargesheet to seven persons in the case, including the three police officials, last week.

The three police officials today surrendered before the metropolitan court and applied for an anticipatory bail fearing arrest.

However, Metropolitan Magistrate Madhumita Roy rejected their bail plea and sent them to jail for 14 days.

Court officials said the trial of the seven persons indicted by the High Court in the Rizwanur case will be taken up on October 27.

The Rizwanur case came to the High Court after his mother Kishwar Jahan moved a plea saying that his son did not commit suicide but was murdered. She prayed for a CBI enquiry before the bench to uncover the mystery behind the death of Rizwanur.

After investigation, the CBI said Rizwanur committed suicide after being harrassed by police officials and family members of his wife Priyanka Todi.
