Kendrapara, Sep 29 (UNI) Strange are the ways of Nature. While the flood fury snatched away large number of precious lives, a woman gave birth to a baby boy in a boat safely much to the cheers of her family members.
Both the mother and the child were in good health.
According to sources, Rita (name changed) of Betera village under Garadapur block, delivered the child in a boat while being taken to the District Headquarter hospital Kendrapara on Thursday.
Asha volunteers and a couple of other women, who accompanied Rita, assisted her in delivering the child inside the boat.
Rita experienced labour pains on September 24 evening while taking shelter with her husband on a land after flood water submerged their house.
Since all communication lines were cut off, the couple had to wait till the next morning, though the woman was writhing in labour pain.
In the morning, they somehow managed to arrange a boat and while ferrying to the district headquarter hospital, the child was born in the boat.
Later, both the mother and child were admitted to the Patkuara Community Health Centre.
Official sources said at least three cases of delivery were reported in different places of the district during the high flood.
