Thousands take holy dip in Kurukshetra
Kurukshetra, Sep 29 (UNI) Thousands of pilgrims took a dip in holy waters of the Brahamsarovar and Sannihitsarovar on the day of Somwati Amavas here today.
Most of the pilgrims also took a dip in the nearby Jyotisar Teerath and in the Saraswati Teerath in Pehowa to pay obeisance to the departed souls of their families, offering them water and food, known as 'Shraadh.' They offered 'Jal Tarpan', standing in the water of the Sarovars after taking bath therein. The pandas and purohits sitting by the banks of the sarovars had a busy day today as a large number of pilgrims performed the 'pind-daan' to the departed souls.
The district administration had made adequate arrangements for the safety and security of the pilgrims near the sarovars.
Buses plied from disfferent destinations to the Sarovar areas to ferry the devotees, while the old people and women preferred auto-rickshaws and cycle rickshaws to reach the sarovars.
