Suspected Indian Mujahideen terrorist held in UP

Lucknow, Sep 29: In a major development to the recent serial blasts in India the Anti-terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Uttar Pradesh police on Monday, Sep 29 arrested an Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist Arif, involved in Ahmedabad, Delhi and Lucknow blasts. The police sources said that Arif, a native of Sanjarpur village in Azamgarh district, was nabbed in the state capital on Monday, Sep 29.

Reports says that Arif is one of the members of the terrorist group (Indian Mujahideen) which planted explosives in New Delhi and Ahmedabad serial blasts recently. Besides, during preliminary interrogation, Arif, a close associate of Tariq Kazmi, has admitted to his involvement in the serial bomb blasts in three civil courts of UP in November 2007.

Arif was arrested from Charbagh area of Lucknow. Arif's name cropped up during interrogation of Abu Bashar the mastermind of Ahmedabad blasts and Saif who was arrested during Sep 19 Delhi enounter. Both are suspected terrorists of the Indian Mujahideen.

The Uttar Pradesh ATS is in contact with its couterparts of Delhi and Gujarat for further leads.
