Puducherry, Sep 29: Puducherry Munnetra Congress (PMC) Founder and President P Kannan today demanded the resignation of Chief Minister V Vaithilingam and his Cabinet colleagues for his alleged statement against the Constitution.
Addressing the press here, Mr Kannan said Mr Vaithilingam, at a function yesterday, had said the government and the party were the same and could not be separated.
This was against the Constitution as the government was for all and party for the cadre only.
This statement was against the oath of office and secrecy, he had taken and hence, should not continue in power.
Demanding that Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning V Narayansamys tender an apology for asking the congress-led government to treat the Opposition as 'enemy'party, Mr Kannan challenged whether he dared announce it in New Delhi and wondered if it would be applicable to the Manmohan Singh government.
Mr Kannan said he would consult PMC's 'friendly parties' and take a decision to conduct mass movement against Mr Narayansamy.
On the setting up of the PRT project, Mr Kannan said the PMC would strongly oppose it since the project would ruin the cultural heritage of Puducherry and adversely affect the development of the Union Territory.
On the government medical college issue, Mr Kannan demanded a white paper.
