Itanagar, Sep 29 (UNI) The National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) in Arunachal Pradesh has once again come under criticism with MLA Nido Pavitra levelling allegations against the public sector undertaking of overlooking people's welfare while executing power projects in the state.

MLA of Raga assembly constituency, under Upper Subansiri district Nido Pavitra, alleged that the NHPC was ignoring its obligations of relief and rehabilitation and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with regard to the 2,000 MW Subansiri Hydro Project (SHP) in the state.

In a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the legislator drew his attention that although one per cent of the project cost had to be spent on CSR, the NHPC authorities had failed to fulfil this obligations.

Mr Pavitra further alleged that the SHP was running behind schedule and was likely to be delayed by two years from its original schedule in 2012.

He added that the delay would cause Rs 3,500 crore energy loss to the Centre and Rs 100 crore to the state government against 12 per cent free power.

The MLA, in the letter, urged the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter and issue necessary directives to the power giant for completion of the project in time and provide adequate relief and rehabilitation package to the affected people.
