Bhopal, Sep 29: Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar today said journalists should realise their social responsibilities and wield their pen in a thoughtful manner.
Dr Jakhar made the statement while addressing a felicitation programme in the honour of premier news agency United News of India's newly-appointed General Manager-cum-Chief Editor Arun Kumar Bhandari here today.
Public Relations Minister Lakshmikant Sharma, Industries Minister Jayant Malaiya, state Congress President Suresh Pachouri and senior journalist N K Singh and Madanmohan Joshi were present at the programme, organised by the Central Press Club here.
Referring to widening role of media in the changing social perspective, Dr Jakhar said every section has to pay price if pen is used carefully. A journalist is responsible for presenting various problems of society with positive viewpoint.
He hoped that Mr Bhandari would take the news agency to new heights.
Commenting about the nearly-four-decade-long stint of Mr Bhandari in UNI, Mr Sharma said the newly-appointed General Manager-cum-Chief Editor had set new standards in the field of journalism. He hoped that the agency would make rapid progress during his tenure.
Noting that Mr Bhandari had great potential, Mr Malaiya wished UNI bright future, while Mr Pachouri pointed out that credibility of the news agency was unparalleled.
Expressing gratitude for everyone, Mr Bhandari said his priority was strengthening the news agency in the country and abroad. He indicated that he would bring changes in the working style of the news agency in accordance with the present requirements.
