India does not support nuclear ambitions of Iran : PM
Marseille, France, Sep 29 (UNI) India and the European Union (EU) today expressed serious concern over the Iranian Nuclear issue and called on Tehran to take steps to re-establish confidence in the nature of its Nuclear programme, as required by the IAEA Board of Governors.
At their India-EU Summit here, the two sides also expressed support for the current diplomatic efforts and steps to find a satisfactory solution to the nuclear issue.
Replying to questions at a joint press conference alongwith French President Nicholas Sarkozy and European Commission President Jose Manuel Borrosso after the Summit, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made it clear that there was ''no question'' of supporting the nuclear ambitions of Iran and also a nuclear weapon state emerging in the region.
He said Iran is a signatory to the NPT and is entitled to developing its civilian nuclear programme. However, it must also adhere to all its obligations.
''We do not support a nuclear weapon state emerging in our region.
So there is no question of support to the nuclear ambition of Iran,'' he added.
