Patna, Sep 29: Taking cognizance of sale of Chinese milk products contaminated with hazardous melamine chemicals which claimed lives of four children in China, the Bihar government has announced to take action aganist those involved in selling such candies.
Bihar Health Minister Nandu Kishore Yadav has directed the state drugs controller to raid the confectioneries where such candies were being sold in the state. He said raids were being conducted to seize potentially lethal Chinese milk candies from the shop shelves.
Meanwhile, 'White Rabbit Creamy Candies' were being sold in some of the shopping malls and departmental stores of the state capital.
The brand had been found to be contaminated with melamine chemical which is at present under the scanner worldwide as milk containing the chemical had caused death of four kids and left over 55,000 others seriously ill in China.
Since the incident, the 'White Rabbit Creamy Candies' had been pulled out from the shelves in several countries, but astonishingly several other Chinese milk confectionery brands, including the above-mentioned candies, were avalable in the shops in Patna despite a ban announced by the Centre on the sale of Chinese milk and milk products.
