Centre allocates Rs 2750 crore for restoration of water bodies
New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Enthused by the success of pilot projet for repair, renovation and restoration of water bodies in agriculture sector, the Ministry of Water Resources has proposed to extend the scheme throughout the country during the 11th plan with an allocation of Rs 2,750 crore.
The Rs 300 crore pilot scheme launched in January 2005 had so far rejuvenated 894 water bodies in 26 districts of 15 states.
Under the scheme the Centre provided 75 per cent funds while the States provided the rest.
A Ministry release said a concurrent evaluation had been done through site inspections and review meetings with senior officials of the State Governments and added that feedback had indicated satisfactory implementation.
Independent evaluation and impact assessment were also being done with the help of Institutes and Universities, the release said.
