Kerala's Aralam farm: Venue for Child marriage?
Kannur (Kerala,) Sep 29: As many as 391 Adivasi girls were married off before they attained the age of 18, a survey in Aralam Farm said. The girls, in the age group of 14 or 15, were married off at the farm where Adivasis had been rehabilitated.
The survey was conducted by the District Homeopathic Research and Hospital Society (DHRHS) for a Union Government project on reproductive child health. The report also said mother and child lacked sufficient nutrition. Proper treatment could not be given to the Adivasi girls during pregnancy and after delivery. There were about 3,560 Adivasi families now in the farm which lacked proper sanitation and drinking water facilities. Around 50 people suffered from TB while 25 were mentally ill.
