Velu inaugurates broad gauge section
Tuticorin, Sep 28 (UNI) Minister of State for Railways R Velu inaugurated a newly converted broad guage section, between Tiruchendur and Tirunelveli, at Tiruchendur, near here, yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the railway had spent Rs 118 crore for the project.
Tamil Nadu had 1,052 km of metre guage section, in which about 450 km section has been converted to broad gauge, he said, adding, the rest of the section would be converted within two years.
A separate railway track, between Karaikudi and Kanyakumari, through Madurai, Rameshwaram and Tuticorin, was in the initial stage, he said.
