Veerampatinam village fishermen join Congress
Puducherry, Sep 28 (UNI) A group of fishermen of Veerampatinam village led by village president Kangeyan today joined the Congress today.
Welcoming them into the party, Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy, here said the construction of houses for the tsunami-affected fishermen of Lawspet constituency would soon be completed. The Congress would support the fishermen community, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Revenue and Fisheries Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said the administration would provide pension to nearly 2,000 fishermen next month. Pension was not given to them for the last four and a half years and out of the 3,000, who applied for the same would get it next month. Diesel subsidy would also be provided to the fishermen from next week, he added.
If the fishermen community supported the Congress, the party could win the elections and form a government on it's own, he said and appealed to party workers to ensure Congress party's victory in the elections.
Mr Narayanasamy said Chief minister V Vaithilingam, Ministers Kandasamy, Shajahan and Malladi Krishna Rao graced the function.
