Punjab thrash Delhi 6-1 in sub junior national football

Chandigarh, Sep 28 (UNI) Cluster IV winners and hosts Punjab handed out a 6-1 thrashing defeat to Cluster VII leaders, Delhi in the group B quarter-final league match of the 31st Sub-Junior National Football Championship-2008 for Mir Iqbal Hussain Trophy in Mahilpur today.

In another one-sided encounter in the same group, Cluster II champions Mizoram carried too many guns against Cluster III winners Meghalaya by 7-0.

The Punjab team muffed a chance to score a goal in the 25th minute when Harpreet had the goal wide open in front of him. However, he soon atoned himself for his earlier lapse by netting an excellent field goal.

Delhi lads capitalised on a defence lapse and equalised the score in the 33rd minute. In the second half, however, the Punjab team were a transformed lot and scored regularly through Sukhvir, scoring in the 47th, 51st and 88th minutes, Harpreet senior in the 49th minute and Rajbir in the 69th minute.

Mizoram netted three goals in the first half with another 4 goals coming in the scored half. The scorers were Lalnunmawia (2nd, 18th and 85th minutes), Lalhriatpuia (21st), Lalnunpuia (70th, 76th) and Rosiamliana (87th).
