Ball-shaped firecrackers cause panic in Punjab village
Mohali, Sep 28 (UNI) Five ball-shaped objects, suspected to be bombs, were today recovered by the Punjab police near Bankerpura village near Dera Bassi on the Chandigarh-Ambala national highway.
Giving details, SSP J S Aulakh told mediapersons here that the objects were not bombs but firecrackers. The army conducted a chemical examination of the objects and concluded that the objects were just a 'ball of potash' with a wick popping out of each of them, he added.
The SSP said no detonator or timer was found in any of the five objects.
A police party had noticed these objects lying on the roadside leading to the village and had informed the district headquarters.
Thereafter, the area was cordoned off and army experts were summoned, who after examining the objects, took these into custody for a chemical examination.
The report of the army was submitted to the SSP this evening.
