Wait till CMZN is fully accepted: Karunanidhi urges PM
Chennai, Sept 27 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today urged Prime Minsiter Manmohan Singh to defer the controversial Coastal Management Zone Notification (CMZN), 2008, till such time it was fully accepted by the coastal community, especially the fishermen.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, copy of which was released to the media here, Mr Karunanidhi said there was strong apprehension among coastal communities, especially fishermen that the Notification would endanger their livelihood and put them to much hardhip.
In order to make them understand the provisions of the Notification, it was imperative that its official translation into the local language, Tamil, be made available by the centre.
''The Tamil version will not only help coastal communities, especially the fishermen, to fully undersstand the various provisions emanated in the Costal Management Zone Notification 2008, but also enbale them to articulate their views and apprehensions to government, which will enable the process meaningful'', the Chief Minister said.
In the above circumstances, Mr Karunanidhi, requested the Prime Minister that the issue of the Notifications was deferred until it was fully accepted by coastal communities.
