Van Vihar holds workshop during 'Wildlife Week'

Bhopal, Sep 27: The Van Vihar National Park is set to organise a workshop on 'wildlife conservation and environment education' for print and electronic media during 'Wildlife Week' from Tuesday, Oct 7.

Official sources on Friday, Sep 26 said a discussion would be held on the role of media for the conservation of Madhya Pradesh's forest and wildlife, wildlife management, challenges and strategies for management and its solutions.

Van Vihar, situated in the heart of the state capital and sprawling over 445.21 hectare land on hillocks was developed in 1980 and finally notified as a National Park in 1983.

It has a serpentorium with myriad species of snakes.

About 207 species of birds, 60 species of butterflies and wild animals like tiger, leopard, hyena, sloth bear besides antelopes are housed in the natural habitat.

Gharial, crocodile and several species of tortoise are also the centre of attraction in Van Vihar. The shore of upper lake provides ideal conditions both for the Park's flora and fauna.

The park remains open throughout the year with about 2.50 lakh visitors coming to the park every year. It has free entry for school, college students and Senior citizens.
