Shahu co-op sugar factory crushes 7.75 lakh mt of cane
Kolhapur, Sep 26 (UNI) Shree Chhatrapati Shahu Co-operative Sugar factory at Kagal in the district had crushed a whopping 7,75,248 metric tonnes of cane during the 2007-08 crushing season and produced 10,15,790 quintals of sugar.
Factory chairman Vikramsingh Ghathe told reporters that they had declared Rs 1,100 per tonne to the cane farmers during the period.
Of that, the factory had made an advance payment of Rs 965 per mt earlier and the balance payment of Rs 135 per mt, which amounts to abour Rs ten crore, would be credited to the bank accounts of the farmers in the first week of October.
Taking into consideration the volatility of the sugar market, they have made a provision of Rs three crore as 'cane price fluctuation fund' to cushion the effects of fluctuation in sugar prices. This will enable the factory to pay a reasonable price to the cane farmers, he added.
