New York, Sep 27 (UNI) US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has written a letter to the House of Representatives' Speaker Nancy Pelosi urging her to make sure the Indo-US nuclear energy cooperation deal is approved by the House.
She described the deal as a rare chance and it should be seized immediately.
On July 18, 2005 President George W Bush and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh initiated the deal when Dr Singh visited the White House.
In her letter, made available to the mediapersons yesterday, Ms Rice said the step would deepen America's strategic relationship with India.
''I am writing to express my strong support for the US-India Nuclear Cooperation Approval and Nonproliferation Enhancement Act,'' the Secretary of State said in the letter.
A positive response from Speaker Pelosi, a key player in the whole nuclear deal process, is important in taking the accord to its logical conclusion.
Ms Rice said to Ms Pelosi, ''We have an unprecedented and historic opportunity before us. With this legislation, Congress will help ensure that the journey we began three years ago is completed immediately.'' UNI XC PD RL NS2127
