Chandauli, Sep 27 (UNI) The Uttar Pradesh police has launched a multi-directional operation to look out for the criminal gang following chance recovery of twenty five .32 revolvers with US made marks at Mughalsarai railway station last night.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF), during a routine check, found these revolvers in the baggage of one Raju Mehta, a resident of district Munger in Bihar. He was arrested after alighting from Brahamputra mail.

The RPF handed over the case to the Government Railway Police (GRP), UP for further investigation.

Raju Mehta is believed to be just a conduit and was to hand over the consignment to some criminal gang at Mughalsarai station which borders UP and Bihar.

According to senior police officials the operation was launched to look into the designs behind this recovery. The links of arrested people were being traced while the initial probe suggested that the revolvers, despite having US mark, might have been manufactured in Bihar to be supplied to some gang.

''We are taking the matter very seriously, specially in the view that the adjoining Varanasi city had been the target of terrorist activities in the past,'' a senior UP police official told UNI here.
