Puducherry, Sep 27 (UNI) The Tourism Department of the Puducherry Administration organised a numismatic exhibition and 'Thondai Mandala Naanaviyal Kazhagam' to mark the World Tourism Day celebrations here today.
Tourism Department Joint Director K V Subramani inaugurated the three-day exhibition in the presence of CPI National Council member R Viswanathan, MLA.
Coins, 2500 year-old, including those of the Chera, Chola and Pandya kingdoms and those during the reigns of Hyder Ali, Tipu Sultan, Arcot Nawab, Mysore Maharaja, are displayed at the exhibition. Coins of the East India Company and those of the Dutch and Portuguese are also exhibited.
Postal stamps of different countries, including India, plastic currency notes, coins and others items excavated from Arikkamedu here are also on display at the exhibition.
