Patna, Sep 27 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today stressed the need for preparation of a sepcial package for farmers in flood hit areas of north Bihar.
During his interaction with a central team which arrived here for assessment of the damage of standing crops in flood ravaged areas of north Bihar, Mr Kumar said the special package should be prepared to provide relief to the each and every farmer in the area.
''More than one lakh hectare of agricultural land had been affected by the devastating flood'', Mr Kumar said adding the concerted effort should be made to restore fertility of the affected land.
On its part the central team assured the Chief Minister that soil of the affected land would be tested in laborataries to assess the extent of damage in its fertility. On the basis of the report, treatment for such land would be suggested. ''During the visit of the flood ravaged areas, proper assessment of the damage of standing crops would be carried out,'' the team added.
