Srinagar, Sep 27: One of the two militants, holed up in a house in south Kashmir, has been killed in an ongoing encounter, official sources said on Saturday, Sep 27.
They said police and 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint search operation at village Kenigam in district of Pulwama last night following a tip off about the presence of two Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants in a house.
When the security forces were about to storm the particular house, militants hiding inside opened fire. Later the cordon around the house was further tightened and sharp shooters took position in the nearby houses after shifting the residents to safer place.
The reports said there were two JeM militants--Showkat and Adnan-- inside the house.
Intermittent firing between the militants and security forces continued throughout the night.
One of the militants has been killed, they said adding the encounter is still going on.
