Jammu, Sep 27 (UNI) The troops of Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration bid as a group of militants attempted to sneak into the Indian Territory through International Border (IB) in Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir, sources here today said.

''A group of militants tried to enter this side of the border under the cover of firing from across the border but the troops of 26 Bn BSF foiled the bid,'' sources told UNI and added that bullets and UBGL were fired from the other side on Chak Phagwari post on Indian side late last night around 2400 hrs.

''The BSF troops retaliated the fire from Pakistan side as the firing lasted for more than half-an-hour while no incident of injury or any damage to the property have been reported so far,'' an official spokesman said.

The official sources said it is not clear whether the Pakistani troops or infiltrators fired on the Indian post.

Firing from across the border has become a routine affair as militants are using 'cover fire' to enter the Indian side to disrupt the forthcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held by the year end.
