Congress agitates over Singh's arrest; hands memorandum to governor
Lucknow, Sep 27 (UNI) Alleging that the chairman of the state Congress task force on RTI and former DSP Shailendra Singh was arrested to prevent him from appearing in the Supreme Court, Uttar Pradesh Congress under the leadership of former chief minister Ramnaresh Yadav handed over a memorandum to governor T V Rajeswar here today.
In the memorandum, the party has sought governor's intervention into the matter and demanded taking back of all the legal action taken against Mr Singh.
Mr Singh had filed a petition in the SC over the misuse of public funds in the construction of Ambedkar Memorial. The SC had asked Mr Singh to file a rejoinder in the case on September 29 and appear before the court.
The arrest was made to prevent the Congressman to appear before the court, the memorandum said.
The Congress workers today staged state-wide demonstration and burnt the effigy of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati regarding the same.
It was also stated in the memorandum that the UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi was being framed in fake case in Allahabad and the state government should be stopped committing atrocities on the Congressman.
State police had arrested the former police officer in the early hours from his house at Gomti Nagar yesterday for creating a ruckus at the State Information Commissioner (SIC) office on Thursday.
