Chandigarh, Sep 26 (UNI) Strongly advocating the need for active public-private partnership for strengthening tourism infrastructure in the city, Chandigarh Administrator Gen (Retd) SF Rodrigues promised to offer hassle free tourism-related quality services to make Chandigarh as the "destination of choice" for tourists.
"The city has a great tourism potential and our endeavour is to change the image of Chandigarh as a stopover and attract the tourists to spend more time here," Gen Rodrigues said in his message on the eve of World Tourism Day.
"We must make coordinated efforts to boost the city's image as a preferred tourist destination for the world and showcase the significant features of the city beautiful," he said.
The Chandigarh Administration is in the process of implementing various plans to place the city on the global tourism map with the focus on extending efficient medical, educational and entertainment oriented facilities, he said.
The administration is setting up a mega theme park, the first of its kind in the country to highlight Indian culture and mythology which will give a major boost to the tourism. A multi-media-cum-film city is also being set up which would be a major tourist attraction, featuring modern animation and showcasing the latest trends in multi-media with digital studios and TV productions.
To promote medical tourism the administraion is setting up a medi-city with full-fledged network of research facilities.
Various programmes like launching of the city card, introducing the concept of tourism police for helping tourists, international food festival, music nights, are among the activities the administration has planned to celeberate the world tourism day tomorrow.
