Siwan, Sep 26 (UNI) A local special court today awarded ten years rigorous imprisonment to incarcerated RJD MP Md Shahabuddin for illegally possessing foreign brand live cartridges.
Pronouncing the judgement, Additional District and Sessions Magistrate Gyaneshwar Srivastav also slapped a fine of Rs 15,000 on the MP, presently lodged in Siwan jail in connection with several criminal cases.
In case the convict failed to submit the fine, he would have to serve the jail term for additional one year.
As per the charges, the special team of police had recovered 200 foreign brand cartridges, laser pistols during a raid at Pratapur -based residence of the MP under Hussanganj police station in the district on April 24, 2005.
A case was registered in the police station in this connection.
The court, however, exonerated the MP and two others in want of evidence in connection with another case related to forcibly taking away an accused from the police custody.
As per the charges, Md Shahabuddin along with Rustam Khan had forcibly taken away Munna Sai from the custody of Inspctor Sandesh Baitha from Andar police station on June 21, 1996.
