Panaji, Sep 26 (UNI) Goan NGO Utt Goenkara's spokesman Advocate Aires Rodrigues today alleged that the restructuring of fees payable to the Advocate General of Goa was merely an eye wash.
Advocate Rodrigues said the government had gone back on its assurance that the fees of the Advocate General of Goa would be brought on par with the neighbouring states.
Even after the restructuring of fees, Mr Subodh Kantak would be paid up to a maximum Rs 5 lakh a month, much higher than the fees of Advocate Generals of Karnataka, Maharashtra and Gujarat, which is around Rs 40,000 a month, according to Advocate Rodrigues.
Advocate Rodrigues also stated that while Goa Advocate General Subodh Kantak gets Rs 8,000 each time he stands up in the high court, his counterpart in Gujarat is paid Rs 700 per day per case only in case of an effective hearing. The Advocate General of Maharashtra is paid from Rs 5,000-Rs 7,000 per day irrespective of the number of cases he appears, while the AG of Karnataka gets Rs 1,000 for the first case and Rs 250 each for the subsequent cases upto a maximum of Rs 10,000 per day.
