Thrissur, Kerala, Sep 26 (UNI) Chief Controller of Explosives Ajay Nigam today said new legislation, giving emphasis on safety in performing firework displays, was under consideration of the Union Law Ministry.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating a two-day workshop on ''Pyrotech--2008'' here, Mr Nigam said the law would have provision to increase the distance between the spectators and the place of fireworks display, to ensure safety.
He also asserted more importance should be given to 'light and colour' than on sound during such events.
''India should be able to lead the world market in pyrotechnics, if we used modern technology,'' he said.
Instead of using obnoxious potassium chloride to make firecrackers, pyrochloride should be used to ensure safety.
The workshop was organised by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers in association with Pretoleum and Explosives Safety Organisation, Government of India.
