Heavy rains fill dams in Nanded
Nanded, Maharashtra, Sept 26 (UNI) The heavy rains lashing the district, since last fortnight has filled most of the irrigation projects to their maximum capacity.
As the discharge of water from the various irrigation projects continue, out 18 gates of the Vishnupuri lift irrigation project, 16 have been opened.
The residents of the 16 adjoining villages have been warned about the increasing level of water at Godavari.
From the Jayakwadi project, based at Paithan near Arugangabad, 1 lakh 54 thousand cusecs water were discharged during the last four days, the Purna project has also discharged 27,000 cusecs water during the same period. The water level of Godavari river has also increased to 350 meters.
The influx of water resulted in filling 17 major and minor irrigation projects to their capacity. Of the remaining, 17 dams are filled to 50 per cent of their capacity. Out of the 88 projects, 50 are filled up to 25 per cent. Though the recent rains have solved the problem of drinking water and of fodder for time being, the summer season may prove to be tough for the farmers.
