Five injured in explosion at Dharavi
Mumbai, Sep 26 (UNI) As many as five people suffered minor injuries in an explosion that occurred at Dharavi in north central Mumbai today.
Police said at around 1330 hrs, 21-year-old Santosh Vatkar picked up a polythene bag from garbage bin behind Dharavi police station and took it home. There was a small box inside the bag.
When his efforts to open the box failed, he threw it onto the floor in his 8 X 10 room in Dharavi slum area that resulted in an explosion. Five persons, including his father Prabhu, mother Kamal, he himself and two others sustained injuries in the explosion.
Following the explosion, the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) rushed to the spot.
All the injured were admitted to civic-run Sion Hospital, where three have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and another in the general ward, while the fifth was allowed to go home after administering first aid, they added.
Police are yet to ascertain the reason as to why the explosion took place and what was inside that box.
