Students upto middle level to get mid-day meals in J and K
Srinagar, Sep 25 (UNI) Almost all schools upto middle standard have been covered under the Mid-Day Meal scheme in Jammu and Kashmir.
An official spokesman said today nearly 11.32 lakh students across the state were being provided Mid-Day Meals.
He said under infrastructural development programme, 13 college complexes at a cost of Rs 59 crore were completed during 2007-08 in the state.
During the period, 98 primary and 112 middle school buildings and 1271 additional classrooms were also constructed, he said.
The spokesman said in addition, 2661 primary school buildings for upgraded Education Guarantee Centres were also completed in the same period.
More than 13.81 lakh books have been provided to the students of class first to 8th standard in the state during last financial year.
Merit scholarships were also given to 39,000 students of primary and middle level classes, he added.
As many as, 596 primary schools 125 middle, 88 high schools have been upgraded to middle, high and secondary level during this period.
In order to train the teachers in latest method of teaching and making them aware of information technology about 13,000 teachers have been trained under Surva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme, he informed.
Over 8900 teachers have been trained under Re-orientation Programme and 1017 teachers in computer education.
