Rice output estimated at 83.25 mln tonnes
New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) The Kharif foodgrain crop production has been estimated at 115.33 million tonnes (MT) with rice output expected to touch a new record of 83.25 MT, according to the first advance estimated released for Kharif (summer) crops here today.
The two-day National Conference on Agriculture, attended by farm officials from all states which evolved a strategy for Rabi (winter) crops, 2008, concluded here today after finalising the estimates for current summer crops.
As per the fourth advance estimates for 2007-08, the rice production was 82.81 MT.
But the total kharif foodgrains last year (fourth advance estimate) was around five MT higher than this year's estimates.
The course cereals production, however, estimated at 27.36 MT, three MT is less than the last year's at 31.70 MT.
Similarly, cotton production has been estimated at 23.91 million bales, while last year's output was 25.81 million bales, each of 170 kg.
Estimated output of pulses for the current crops has also been put at 4.72 MT while last year's production was 6.45 MT.
Oilseeds production has been estimated at 17.95 MT for the current crops, while it was 19.84 MT last year.
Similarly, the sugarcane production estimated ar 294.66 MT is lower than the last year's output of 340.58 MT.
