Release all detenues, compensate fruit growers in Kashmir: ANC
Srinagar, Sep 25 (UNI) Demanding immediate halt to alleged indiscriminate arrests of youths in the Kashmir valley, the Awami National Conference (ANC) said all those detained during the recent anti economic blockade agitation should be released and cases against some of them under the Public Safety Act (PSA) be withdrawn.
A spokesman of the ANC, headed by former Chief Minister Ghulam Mohammad Shah, said a meeting of the party office bearers here today made an appeal to Governor N NVohra to withdraw cases against the leaders and others detained during the recent agitation.
The ANC questioned how the cases registered against the Shrine Board leaders and those who forced economic blockade and attacked minorities and Kashmir dirvers in Jammu were withdrawn and released unconditionally by the authorities when people in Kashmir were still being targetted for their participation in peaceful processions.
The party also demanded immediate relief to fruit growers and traders who suffered huge loss in the wake of the economic blockade.
They also demanded compensation to the next of kin of those killed in police and CRPF firing during the agitation.
