Junior Accounts Officer convicted in ACB case
Hyderabad, Sep 25: Special Judge for ACB cases, Visakhapatnam, today convicted and sentenced a Junior Accounts Officer of APEPDC Limited in Srikakulam, to one-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
Delivering the verdict the Judge said Gembali Vasudeva Rao would have to undergo one-month simple imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.
The judge also sentenced him to six-months rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 500 for the offence under section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. He would have to undergo two-month simple imprisonment in case of default in payment of fine.
The ACB sleuths trapped the official when he accepted Rs 2,000 from a complainant for doing an official favour, a press release here said.
Meanwhile, ACB officials yesterday conducted a surprise raid at the Chilamathur Sub-Registrar Office in Anantapur district and recovered Rs 13,110 from three document writers. These document writers were collecting more than the prescribed legal amounts from the parties/persons who came for registration of documents.
Necessary action was being initiated against Sub-Registrar Officer and four staffs, who were present at the time of the raid, the release added.
