IIMB, IIAS to conduct colloquium on Mahatma Gandhi birthday
Bangalore, Sep 25 (UNI) Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) and the Indian Institute of Advance Study(IIAS), Shimla will jointly organise a one-day colloquium on 'Gandhi, Governance and the Corporation' here on October Two, marking the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi.
Talking to newspersons here, Balasubramanian, Chairman of the IIMB Centre for Corporate Governance and Citizenship said it comes at a time when there was a need for a shift in focus and strategy for corporate governance, with the world economy facing a setback in recent times.
Prof Balasubramanian said the objective of the colloquium was to visit Gandhian principles in the chosen areas to explore their application to Corporations in India and abroad.
Pankaj Chandra, Director of IIMB said, neither Gandhian principles, nor corporate governance practices were new subjects, but what was unique about the colloquium was its objective of revisiting some of these principles and reiterating their relevance and imperatives to corporate behaviour and contribution.
Peter DeSouza, Director of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, stressed the importance of Gandhian tenets of personal and organisational behaviour. It is not unusual for Gandhi and his philosophy to be positioned at a moral and political plane with an imagery of impossible attainment by ordinary mortals, Prof DeSouza added.
