Heroin worth Rs 14.28 cr seized, Vietnamese national held
Bangalore, Sep 25 (UNI) Customs sleuths seized 4.28 kg of heroin valued at Rs 14.29 crore in the US market and arrested a Vietnamese national, who almost succeeded in giving slip to the Officials, at the Bangalore International Airport early today.
According to Customs sources, the preventive unit of Bangalore Customs intercepted Nguyen Thi Trang, a Vietnamese national bound for Hanoi via Bangkok by a Thai Airliner and seized the heroin.
This followed a tip off. The Custom officials intercepted her just before she gave a slip to them as she passed all frisking points. She was holding a boarding pass to get into Thai airliner TG 326 at 0030 hrs.
The accused had concealed the contraband in the specially-made cavities of sandals and false bottom of suitcase.
''It is the first such incident encountered by the Preventive Unit of the Bangalore Customs since the new International Airport operationalised in Devanahalli in May this year,'' the officials told.
The incident also brought to the fore the shortcomings at the BIAL in preventing the shipment of such a consignment as the Vietnamese national managed to pass through all exit points and was about to board the airliner.
