Hafed to set up Turmeric plant in Yamunanagar
Chandigarh, Sep 25 (UNI) Hafed would soon set up a 14 tonne per day (TPD) Turmeric Processing Plant at Radaur Block in Yamunanagar district.
An official spokesman said market facilities will be provided to the producers in the district itself.
Turmeric seeds were distributed free of cost by District Horticulture Department among the producers. During this season, 23 quintal seed have been provided free of cost to about 450 Turmeric growers.
He said this year about 800 acres of land is under Turmeric farming whereas Turmeric farming is done only on 75 acres of land during last year.
It is expected that during the season, about 4,000 tonnes of Turmeric will be produced and its growers will get all additional income of about Rs four crore.
He said that National Horticulture Mission will also provide insurance facility to the horticulturists in future.
He said that Turmeric growers could also produce it in the gardens of Popular, Mango, Guava, and Cheeku. This will help in minimising the crop expenses and enhance the profitability.
Besides setting up of Turmeric Processing Plant, Hafed will also provide guidance to the growers, he added.
