Congress trashes Nanavati panel findings
New Delhi, Sep 25 (UNI) The Congress today rejected the findings of the Justice Nanavati Commission, which probed the 2002 Sabarmati train carnage at Godhra in Gujarat, saying that it was a Panel created virtually by the principal accused--Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
''We are entirely not surprised by the constitution, proceedings and results of the Commission which is created virtually by the principal accused to investigate into the entire system of state administration over which Mr Modi presides and to submit the report again to the same principal accused,'' AICC spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi told mediapersons.
He said the findings of the part report, placed before the Gujarat Assembly today, were contradicted by an outside commission (Banerjee Commission) not within the state of Gujarat and set up by the ministry which has principal jurisdiction namely Railway Ministry.
Dr Singhvi said it could have been in the fitness of things to have a commission outside the state not appointed by Mr Modi.
He said it could not be forgotten that the Supreme Court had time and again transferred the legal proceedings on the issue outside Gujarat, in a clear demonstration that there was lack of faith in the state government.
