Centre, TN Govt neglecting southern districts: PT leader
Tiruchirapalli, Sep 25: Puthiya Tamilazhagam (PT) President Dr K Krishnaswamy has accused the Centre and the Tamil Nadu government of 'neglecting' the southern districts of the state in setting up new industries, tourism promotion, transport facilities and educational institutions during the last few years.
Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, Sep 24 he said though the state government had signed more than 20 Memorandum of Understandings with industrial houses in the last two-and-half years for setting up of business ventures, most of the units were located only in Chennai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts.
The Government should spread its industrialisation activities across the state especially in the interior parts, he said and urged the government to stop populist schemes and instead concentrate on enhancing infrastructure facilities and carry out more developmental activities.
He said the Centre should formulate plans and allot sufficient funds to operate electric trains from Madurai to other districts in the south and from Tiruchirapalli to various districts in the central region.
The party would organise a conference at Madurai on October 22.
Similar conferences would be held at Tiruchirapalli and Tirunelveli on November 30 and December 15 respectively, he added.
