Centre clears many development projects
New Delhi, Sept 25 (UNI) The Centre today sanctioned a slew of development projects for Gujarat, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, including a Rs 488.13 crore bus rapid transport system(BRTS) for Ahmedabad.
Urban Development ministry said it has released first instalment of Rs 42.71 crore as 25 per cent of its 35 per cent stake in the project which will be implemented by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority in three years.
When completed phase II of BRTS will help ease traffic congestion in the city to a considerable extent.
The Central sactioning and monitoring committee of the ministry has also cleared release of 2nd and 3rd instalment of various other projects,including Rs 122.83 crore storm water drainage for north and east zones of Ahmedabad, Rs 69.22 crore sewage treatment plant at Pirana,Ahmedabad and a Rs 15.13 crore for a 6-lane flyover on Memnagar junction, Ahmedabad.
The committee also sanctioned a Rs 112.08 crore sewerage project for Ajmer and Pushkar towns in Rajasthan with a rider that the Central funding under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission would be limited to Rs 52 crore of balance left for Rajasthan government.
Meanwhile, the Road Transport and Highways ministry has approved Rs 83.55 crore for repair of roads in Vellore district of Tamil Nadu.
