Boat ferrying 35 people sinks; 12 feared drowned
Pratapgarh, Sep 25 (UNI) Twelve missing passengers were feared drowned after the boat carrying them capsized mid-stream in river Sai in Antu area of this Uttar Pradesh district today.
According to official sources, the boat was overloaded with as many as 35 people.
Of them, 13 swam to safety, while 10 were rescued by divers and locals. The rest were feared drowned.
However, no body has been fished out so far.
The ill-fated boat sank near Peelupur ghat.
Fishermen and divers were making efforts to trace out the bodies, and 20 divers have been called from Allahabad.
Senior police and administrative officials, including Allahabad commissioner D N Dubey, Inspector General of Police Pramod Kumar Tiwari and Pratapgarh district magistrate Sainthiyal Pandiyan, have rushed to the spot.
